Rare solar eclipse to darken Offaly skies this evening
A partial solar eclipse will be visible across Ireland this evening, with more than 90% of the Sun expected to be covered by the Moon.
The eclipse will begin shortly after 6pm, reaching maximum coverage shortly after 7pm before ending at around 8pm.
People are being reminded not to look directly at the Sun, with certified eclipse glasses or viewers recommended.
A simple homemade eclipse viewer can also be made using a cardboard cereal box.
