Gardaí Appeal for Witnesses Following Two Attempted Car Hijackings in Edenderry

Gardaí have launched an investigation following two attempted car hijackings in Edenderry on Monday morning, 26 October, which left two motorists with reported injuries.

The incidents occurred within minutes of each other along Dublin Road, with one man subsequently arrested and taken into Garda custody.

The first incident was reported at approximately 6.40am when a man approached a vehicle, entered it while it was occupied and attempted to take control. The driver, a man in his 20s, reportedly suffered injuries before the individual left the vehicle and departed the scene.

A second incident took place shortly afterwards, at around 6.45am, near a filling station on the same road. A man entered another occupied vehicle and attempted to take control of it before getting out. A man in his 20s was arrested at the scene.

A woman in her 40s, who was driving the second vehicle, underwent a medical assessment for injuries believed to be non-life-threatening.

The arrested man is currently being held at a Garda station in Offaly under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 as investigations into both incidents continue.

Gardaí are now seeking assistance from members of the public who may have been travelling through Edenderry between 6am and 7am on Monday morning. In particular, they are asking motorists with dashcam footage, pedestrians with mobile phone recordings or anyone who noticed suspicious activity in the area to make contact.
