Kilbeggan art studio invites community to open studio day

A family-run art studio in Kilbeggan is inviting the local community to come along and discover what it has to offer at a special Open Studio Day later this month.
Segosha House Studios, located on The Square in Kilbeggan, will open its doors on Sunday, September 27 from 3pm to 5pm, giving visitors an opportunity to explore the studio, meet the family behind it and learn more about its growing range of creative programmes.
The event comes following months of work behind the scenes at the studio, which is expanding its activities for both children and adults.
Visitors will be able to view the work of lead artist Cathal Slammon, learn about his creative process and journey, and take part in some simple creative activities themselves.
There will also be an opportunity to find out about upcoming classes, workshops and camps, while tea, coffee and refreshments will be available on the day.
The studio currently runs the Itty Bitty Art Club for children, while a new programme, the Wise & Witty Art Club, is due to launch on October 8, including classes for those aged 60 and over as well as a 16+ adult class.
Creative workshops are also held throughout the year, while the studio’s children’s art camp is set to return during Halloween week.
Segosha House Studios is run by Ciara and Cathal Slammon and their family, with a focus on making creativity accessible to people of different ages, abilities and levels of experience.
“We really wanted to open the doors and invite people in to see what we’ve been working on,” Ciara said.
“We know from our recent work with adults especially that there can be a real fear around trying something creative. People worry they won’t be good enough or that they’ll embarrass themselves. We want to challenge that idea and create a space where people feel comfortable having a go.”
The family hopes the studio can also provide another outlet within the community for people who may not be drawn to more traditional activities, creating a space where people can meet others, develop their creativity and try something new.
The Open Studio Day takes place at Segosha House Studios, The Square, Kilbeggan, on Sunday, September 27 from 3pm to 5pm and is open to the community.
