Newlyweds get special Garda escort during Ploughing

A newlywed couple received a helping hand from Gardaí this week as traffic restrictions for the National Ploughing Championships presented an unusual challenge on their wedding day.

With the event taking place in Screggan and the Mucklagh area largely closed to traffic, Shauna and Ryan needed some assistance getting to and from their celebrations.

Members of the Roads Policing Unit stepped in, providing the couple with a special Garda escort through the area.

Sharing photos of the occasion, An Garda Síochána Laois/Offaly described it as a wedding with a “grand entrance”.

“From wedding bells to blue lights, we were delighted to help make sure the happy couple got safely to their celebrations,” Gardaí said.

Gardaí congratulated Shauna and Ryan on their marriage and thanked the newlyweds for allowing officers to play a part in their special day.

The escort made for a memorable addition to the couple’s celebrations during a particularly busy week on Offaly’s roads.
